FOCM is committed to furthering chamber music in our community through education and outreach, as well as by presenting concerts. Each season a variety of activities are offered in addition to the regularly scheduled concerts. Activities may range from family concerts to pre-concert lectures to master classes and lecture/demonstrations. The public is invited to attend and participate in some events, while certain schools are targeted for others.

Friends of Chamber Music partnered with two schools during the 2007-08 season, furthering its commitment to education: Portland State University and Vancouver School for Arts and Academics. Ensembles conducted various education and outreach activities at these two locations. If you are a school interested in partnering with us in the future, please call Pat Zagelow at 503.224.9842 for more information.

Friends of Chamber Music also offers pre-concert talks before each of the Vocal Arts Series concerts for the education and enrichment of our community. See the Vocal Arts Series pages for details.

Each spring we offer our "Inside Chamber Music" class taught by Hamilton Cheifetz. Aimed at both enthusiastic chamber music beginners and seasoned devotees, this popular class explores chamber music past and present from the perspectives of performers, composers, and listeners alike.
